How to Clear Formatting in Google Slides

If you find yourself applying the same formatting over and over again, then you should familiarize yourself with the Paint format tool. The Paint format button copies how text or objects are formatted and lets you apply that formatting elsewhere.

Copy Text Formatting

1. Select the text with the formatting you want to copy.
2. Click the Paint format button.
   

   The formatting is copied, and the Paint format button on the toolbar changes to show that it's active.

3. Select the text you want to apply formatting to.
   

The formatting is applied. Notice that the Paint format button turned off, meaning if you wanted to apply the same format to more text, you'd have to repeat the whole process all over again.

Copy Formatting to Multiple Items

If you want to paste formatting to multiple areas, you can do so without having to step through the entire process every time.

1. Select the text with the formatting you want to copy.
2. Double-click the Paint format button.
   

   The Paint format button on the toolbar changes again, indicating that it's active and will keep pasting formatting until it's turned off.

3. Select the text you want to apply formatting to.

   The formatting is applied and the paint format button is still active to continue the process.

4. Click the Paint format button to turn it off.
   

The button returns to normal, and the Paint format tool is turned off.

Clear Formatting

If you decide that the formatting you applied is too much, you can just clear it.

1. Select the text with formatting you want to clear.
2. Click Format on the menu bar.
3. Select Clear formatting.
   

All of the extra formatting is cleared.
